Kalanchoe tomentosa, commonly known as the panda plant, is a succulent native to Madagascar. It features thick, fleshy, grey-green leaves covered with soft, silvery hairs, giving them a velvety texture. The leaf edges are often tinged with brown or red, adding to its distinctive appearance. This slow-growing plant typically reaches up to 50 cm in height when cultivated indoors.

Native to: Madagascar.

Water: As a succulent, Kalanchoe tomentosa stores water in its leaves and prefers to dry out between waterings. During the active growing season (spring and summer), water thoroughly but infrequently, ensuring the top layer of soil has dried out before watering again. In winter, reduce watering, allowing the soil to remain dry for longer periods. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it is essential to use a pot with drainage holes and well-draining soil.

Light: This plant thrives in bright light to full sun. Place it in a bright location year-round, such as near a south-facing window. If moving the plant outdoors during warmer months, acclimate it gradually to direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorching.

Humidity: Kalanchoe tomentosa adapts well to average indoor humidity levels and does not require additional humidity. Avoid misting the plant, as excess moisture on the leaves can lead to rot.

Temperature: Maintain average room temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. While the plant can tolerate higher temperatures, it is sensitive to cold and should be protected from temperatures below 4°C. Avoid placing it near draughts or sudden temperature changes.
